What’s Included in a Watch Me Grow Photography Package in Louisville?

A Watch Me Grow package books three to five sessions across your baby’s first year, typically newborn, sitter (around 6 months), and first birthday/cake smash, so you end up with one connected story instead of a single stand-alone shoot. I offer this at my Jeffersontown studio for Louisville and Southern Indiana families, and it’s become one of the most requested bookings I take.

I’m Cristy, and I’ve been photographing babies through their first year for over a decade. I started offering Watch Me Grow because I kept hearing the same thing from parents after their cake smash session: “I wish I’d booked you sooner, they’ve changed so much already.” This package solves that regret before it happens.

What Sessions Are Included in a Watch Me Grow Package?

Most of my Watch Me Grow clients book three core sessions: a newborn session in the first two weeks, a sitter session around five to seven months when baby can hold themselves up, and a first birthday cake smash. Some families add a fourth session around three months, when those first real smiles show up.

Each session is booked and paid for individually as it comes up, not all upfront, which I know matters when you’re also budgeting for diapers and daycare. I’ll reach out around the right window for each stage so you’re not the one tracking a spreadsheet of photography deadlines on top of everything else.

Why Book the Whole First Year Instead of Separate Sessions?

Booking as a series locks in your spot at each milestone, and I keep a consistent look across the sessions, same studio setups, same editing style, so the images actually feel like one story when you print them side by side. Families who book individual sessions one at a time sometimes find their preferred date already taken when they finally think to call.

There’s also a practical reason: babies change so fast in that first year that parents consistently tell me they can’t believe the difference between the newborn photos and the cake smash photos. Locking in the whole year while you’re pregnant or just after birth means you never miss a window because life got busy.

When Should I Book Each Session?

Book your newborn session while you’re still pregnant, ideally by your third trimester, since newborn sessions need to happen within the first 5 to 14 days for the best sleepy, curled-up poses. I recommend reaching out for your sitter session around month 4 so we can lock in a date for month 6, and your cake smash date should be set about 6 to 8 weeks before the first birthday.

  • Newborn: Book during pregnancy, session happens days 5-14
  • Sitter: Book at 4 months, session happens 5-7 months
  • Cake smash: Book 6-8 weeks ahead, session at 11-13 months

What Should I Bring or Prepare for Each Session?

I keep newborn and sitter wardrobe simple: I have a client closet at the studio with wraps, headbands, and a few outfits in common sizes, so you don’t have to buy anything special. For the cake smash, I ask parents to pick one or two theme colors and I’ll build the backdrop and smash cake around it, you just need to bring baby (and a change of clothes for the ride home).

Is Watch Me Grow Only for First Babies?

No, plenty of my Watch Me Grow families are on their second or third baby. Siblings often join for part of the sitter or cake smash session too, and I love building that family connection into the gallery rather than isolating baby from everyone else who’s excited about them.

If you already have older kids, I’ll usually suggest a shorter combined family portion at the start of the sitter or birthday session, then a few minutes alone with baby to get the classic milestone shots. It doesn’t need to be an all-day production to feel complete.

What Does a Watch Me Grow Package Cost?

Each Baby Milestone session, whether it’s the newborn, sitter, or cake smash portion, starts with a $499 retainer plus a $699 minimum investment in prints, products, or digitals. There’s no bundled upfront Watch Me Grow price; you pay per session as it happens, which spreads the cost out over the year instead of one large bill.

How Do I Get Started with Watch Me Grow?

Reach out through my contact page as early as your second trimester if you want the full newborn-through-cake-smash series, or check my Baby Milestone Photography page for current session pricing. If you’ve already missed the newborn window, you can still start with a sitter session, plenty of families join partway through.

If cake smash is the piece you’re most excited about, my cake smash planning guide covers themes, props, and timing in more detail. However you come into it, I’ll walk you through exactly what to expect before we ever get to the studio.
